Early Priesting years

When he was 14 a priest came through his neighbourhood and was asking the town if any of the children wanted to be priests. When the priest came to his house, the priest really thought he would get one out of this house because there was lots of kids. When he asked the family he thought long and hard on if he wanted to become a priest. In the end Marcellin thought it would be a great oppertunity and said, "yes".
Marcellin really struggled when he was becoming a priest because he had never gone to school and he was trying to do 10 years of work in only 3 years. When the 3 years had ended he had failed and was feeling really bad and disappointed.
So when he had to study again he felt like he had 3 years of hard work and dedication ahead of him. When the 3 years where over again he had passed and was very happy that all the hard work had paid off. (He was offically a priest on the 22nd of July, 1819.)
He joined a group of priests with a goal to follow in the foot steps of Mary, the Mother of God.
With the French revoloution going on at the time, Marcellin was seeing lots of children in poverty and with no education. Marcellin had this felling inside that he was meant to do something but he was not quite sure what.
One day he was called to a dying boy named John Baptise Montagne. When he had got to John Baptise, he found out he was only 16 and didn't know about God. He lasted a few more miniutes before he died and Marcellin felt terrible because the boy didn't know God. Marcellin found out what he was going to do with his life after meeting this boy. He was going to make a group of Brothers.

The first two Brothers Marcellin had were two young farmers from the town of Lavalla. The first thing the brothers did together was build a place for them to stay and teach the children.
One day Marcellin and Br Stanis Laus where lost in the snow and where almost frozen to death. As they where dying a farmer saw them in the distance and went out and helped them. This helped them become stronger as a team.
Marcellin heard God calling him one day. He said to Marcellin to build up the Marist Brothers in size so he could help more children. When all these men had joined there was not enough room, so that was when they decided to build the Hermitage which enabled them to teach more children.
A few years later St Marcellin Champagnat died. He died leaving a great legacy behind and he was always going to be missed by the other Brothers. He died on the 6th of June, 1840.
