Early Life
Saint Marcellin Champagnat was born on the 20th of May 1789, in the little town of Marhles, France. The town of Marhles was in the mountains of central France.
He was born in to a big religious family. He was the 9th out of 10 children. He lived with his Mum, Dad, all his 9 siblings and his Aunty. His Aunty lived with them because her house was flooded and she had no where to live.
His father was a very important man in the town of Marhles, he was the mayor (as we call it now) of Marhles. He was also a farmer and helped his family enormously with all the food and money. He felt that an education was very important for his children because he got an above average education and wanted his children to as well.
Marcellins Dad taught him a lot of life long skills such as to have an attitude for manual work, a penchant for direct action, to have a sense of responibilty and to always be open to new ideas.
